Texas School Ready (TSR!)
The TSR! Project is geared toward improving school readiness of children entering kindergarten. The key ingredients of TSR! include:
- A partnership among child care and early education programs.
- Implementing a teacher training program designed by the State Center for Early Childhood Development at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center.
- Using research-based state-approved curriculum.
- Professional Development for teachers through 20 two-hour face-to-face trainings, one to four hours of face-to-face mentoring per month in the classroom, and an on-line discussion-networking group with other preschool teachers.
TSR! includes hands-on training for child care providers in the following areas:
- Classroom Management
- Letter Knowledge
- Read Alouds
- Phonological Awareness
- Math Written Expression
- Building Vocabulary
- Science
- Social/Emotional
- Response to Intervention
- Children's Talk
- Special Needs
TSR! assesses children three times a year in:
- Rapid Letter Naming
- Vocabulary
- Phonological Awareness
- Math
- Book and Print
- Writing
- Social and Emotional Development
